The Bailey Brush is the only cat brush made from the highest-quality food-grade silicone and is patented for it’s design in Canada and the United States. This prevents any brush that may have copied it’s likeness from selling online and in stores. We are also protected worldwide from products that attempt to copy our patented design.

Our brush is 100% pure silicone making it dense, durable, flexible and long lasting.

You bet it is! We call it friendly for a few reasons.

1. Quality. The nature of pure silicone means it’s durable and longer lasting than plastic or rubber. When it comes to producing the best high-quality designer brush we want the best quality silicone. When the Bailey Brush is on the shelves next to other products – there’s no comparison.

2. Plastic products are bad. Real bad. After many years plastics break down producing micro-plastics that are harmful for your pets, the oceans, and us. Tossing any kind of plastic is a shame. Silicone on the other hand has unique properties that break down safely and because of this are less harmful to the environment, and with a higher quality silicone it can last over 3X longer than inferior products so you can use them for longer.

3. More durable than rubber. Our silicone Bailey Brush is designed to be safe. This includes surviving being dunked in boiling water to be properly sanitized. This is great for vet clinics and for use with pets at home that may have fragile immune systems. This even helps reduce dander and allergens. Rubber and plastic brushes do not work this way. Rubber begins to break down immediately and deteriorates with use. Plastic is unsafe and leaches harmful chemicals. If your pets safety is a concern we recommend to never use synthetic rubber or plastic containing BPAs.

If used properly, The Bailey Brush is completely safe. In fact, it’s made from high-quality 100% pure silicone to be long lasting, durable and can be sanitized in hot water. This is especially important for uses in vet clinics and at home with pets with weakened immune systems. It is also helpful in cleaning to prevent dander and reduce allergens or germs transferring between pets.

We do recommend using one Bailey Brush per pet and not sharing amongst pets (cats don’t like to share anyways).

We also recommend avoiding gimmick brushes with metal bristles, pulling gloves, misty brushes, steam brushes or brushes with small or moving parts.

The Bailey Brush has a great feature unlike other pet brushes as it can be sanitized in boiling water. First remove excess hair from your brush and rinse your bailey brush under the tap. Bring a pot of water to a boil and carefully place the bailey brush in the pot for a few minutes stirring occasionally. Carefully remove the brush with tongs and let the brush cool for a few minutes before touching or using the brush. Be sure not to let the brush sit against a red hot surface or open flame as that will damage your bailey brush. If your brush shows signs of wear or damage from being accidentally used as a chew toy, for your pet’s safety replace immediately. Do not leave brush unattended near children or pets.

For some reason products in China get a bad rap. Well as a consumer we know very well just how many things are made in China. If you think of high quality items like the iPhone, Gillette, Prada, Chanel, Ray Ban and Nike, they are just a few examples of high quality brands that are made in China.

General Motors is a US brand that has captured the hearts of many American citizens, but did you know their cars are assembled in the US but rely on Shanghai to manufacture its parts?

To be fair, there are also generic products that are mass produced in China as well which is perhaps why many consumers have a bad association with products that are made there. For the Bailey Brush, we are a Canadian Brand and designed the bailey brush here in Canada. After months of testing and perfecting our product safely with many different breeds of cats and dogs and many groomers and veterinarians, we went from the prototype stage to our hunt for the best manufacturer we could find.

We tested silicone molds in Canada, US, India and China. Being Canadian, we first tested silicone factories in Canada but they were unable to create the detail and curvature we wanted in our brush for it to be ergonomic. They also couldn’t achieve the minute details we wanted for our brush. The US was unable to give us the higher quality silicone that we were able to source in China and if we did make it in the US the material would be imported first and the price would be twice as much. And unfortunately, India was unable to guarantee consistency in quality and meet the conditions that we demanded for our factory. In the end, we worked closely with our friends in a small factory in China that was able to check all our boxes. We are proud that together we are able to create a high-end, superior quality, long lasting and carefully crafted bailey brush cat brush.

This is important to us. Our factory is female owned and is an equal opportunity employer. They also pay their employees well and take care of them as any good company would anywhere in the world. 🙂

Typically our brush will arrive within 5 to 12 business days.

Being a small business we ship bulk orders from Vancouver BC, and for oversees or island locations we may ship from our warehouse in China. This is to lower shipping costs and reduce impacts on the environment. In most cases we’ll cover the tax and the import duties for you. As we grow we’ll have more warehouse locations to further reduce impacts on the environment and lower shipping costs.

Oh no! Well first of all, don’t hate us. Leaving bad reviews, angry e-mails, or dropping profanity will be flagged by our review app, but if you have a picky cat please don’t hurt our feelings because we are as upset as you! It’s rare for a cat to not like the brush, even after a few weeks, but let’s be honest, not all cats are going to love being brushed at first. Some cats can be quite picky and hate their routine changing. The first thing we can say is don’t give up or judge your bailey brush too soon! Many cats that hate something new most often prefer the bailey brush once their owner is patient with them and gets them used to it.

Generally, we recommend to hide it in your hand and be gentle the first time, and keep the brush session short so they are comfortable and not over stimulated. Don’t forget to reward them with a treat so they have a good association with their brush.

If your cat has overly sensitive skin, you may want to try a few more tricks. We have a full post on tips and tricks on how to brush a sensitive cat.

If your cat still hates being brushed your cat might be one in a thousand that just doesn’t like it. It’s rare, but it happens. See how they feel tomorrow.

If your bailey brush isn’t getting the fur out like you want this could be because of a few reasons:

1. Your cat sheds in patterns and it can change based on season, days, diet, humidity and environment.

2. Try changing the motion and pattern where you brush. For short haired cats some find using a circular pattern works best to collect hair. Try different patterns to find what works the best. Remember to stick with it, cats sometimes need to adapt to new sensations before they know it’s safe.

3. You haven’t been brushing long enough. Some cats have fine soft fur and this requires more brushing to build up the static cling that will collect more fur as you brush.

4. If you’ve been brushing your cat and it seems to be shedding less, that means the brush is working and their skin and fur is healthier.

Every bailey brush is designed to be soft and gentle for all furry pets, from bunnies to horses and all the cats and dogs too. The bailey brush for dogs might feel the same to touch, however the silicone mix is created to be slightly more flexible to hold up to more aggressive brushing sessions – this also gives it improved results for sud-making at bath time. If you’re concerned about which brush is right for your pet, rest assured each bailey brush will give you the same results.

Bailey Better Bags

If you know us, we are a ‘cat first’ company, but not cats only. Our Bailey Better Bags are perfect for litter scoops, ideal for doggy poops, and also a great option for your organic kitchen scraps. Just like our bags, our famous Bailey Brush is not only perfect for small dogs, it’s preferred by them!

We’re not in the business of making plastic bags and we can proudly say we never will be. Our Bailey Better Bags are only still categorized as “plastic” because they feel like plastic by definition and are used the same way – but they aren’t traditional plastic, they are plant-based and made of corn and are not made of plastic.

Scientifically speaking, the Better Bags are made from corn starch. A polylactic acid or (PLA), which is a plastic substitute made from fermented plant starch is then added as an alternative to traditional plastic. PBAT is a polymer that is added to give it that elastic feel. It’s the best because it breaks down completely when it’s composted and leaves no toxic residues behind. The recipe is exact and allows us to call our bags a truly 100% compostable bag.

Nope. Are they better? Ofcourse! Currently, science has given us this option as the best alternative to plastic for pet waste bags, other than a renewable material, like paper. We’ll keep manufacturing Better Bags until there’s something better and then we’ll make that instead!

We believe the costs of not using a 100% compostable bag are higher. We put “compostable” in quotations because some manufacturers sell green plastic bags that under current regulations can technically still be composted. These products can still contain plastics or recycled plastics. The problem with bags now is that not all bags are created equal – bags that aren’t 100% compostable are incredibly inexpensive to make, resulting in the less expensive options you may see in stores and online.

In Canada, the regulations for plastic bags aren’t there. No one is stopping big manufacturers from making plastic bags for waste.
A good rule of thumb is if it’s dirt cheap, assume there is plastic in them. Buy local and ask your local shops to carry plant-based 100% compostable pet waste bags.

The second Bailey Better Bags are made, they are starting to break down. 1 year is what we classify as our “Strongest Before Date” depending on how they are stored. We recommend a cool and dry location away from sunlight. They will still be usable after 1 year but will begin to lose it’s strength after that time.

Most scents are bad for pets. Veterinarians have recommended that all materials near your cats and dogs be unscented. It’s another reason why we’ve made our bags thick to block out odours, naturally.

  • If it’s dog poop, and you’re out in public, please put it in a pet waste bin or the garbage. Don’t leave them in the forest, trails or roads.
  • If you’re at home, remove it from the bag and flush the poop in the toilet. If you have a pet waste composter you can compost the bag. To learn more on how to make your own pet waste composter click here.
  • If it’s cat litter scoops, plug your nose and put it in the trash. Never flush the bags.
  • If it’s organics, put the bag and the organics in your home compost. It will turn into soil within 90 days in the right conditions.

Don’t compost pet waste in compost that you intend to grow a vegetable garden with, it could make you sick.

Definitely not. Unfortunately, dissolvable pet waste bags make wonderful claims that the product dissolves into water and magically disappears. You might even see some wild videos of people drinking a glass of water that a bag had dissolved into. We can’t imagine anyone dissolving pet poop in a hot glass of water and then drinking it but we see the point they are trying to make.

Dissolvable pet waste bags are actually a material called PVA, Polyvinyl Alcohol. It’s the same material commonly used in Laundry Detergent Pods. As more studies are being done on their environmental impacts, it’s quite interesting to see this product getting into some hot water with their claims, literally.

Besides the fact that this product doesn’t break down in cold water, or the ocean, or landfills and has some harmful environmental effects, it expels 6 times more carbon just to produce them. If everyone switched to dissolvable bags we’d have a problem 6 times greater than where we’re at today.

To do more research here’s some helpful articles to learn more about the risks of using PVA products:

Are ‘water-soluble’ bags really a solution to single-use plastics?
https://thecircularlaboratory.com/are-these-water-soluble-bags-really-a-solution-to-single-use-plastics-in-the-fashion-industry

It may at first seem like a no-brainer to purchase bags from a company that makes millions off claims that they remove millions of tonnes of potential plastic from landfills. We can’t help but take issue with why companies that claim they are ethical and eco-friendly bother producing plastic bags in the first place. I guess we answered our question in the first sentence there. There’s a lot of money in doing that.

The issue is that most pet waste bags are still thrown in the garbage and not recycled so it doesn’t matter if it’s virgin plastic or second-use plastic, they will most likely end up in a landfill.
